Powered with DPO HD+ and VEE HD+, the ArcticLink III VX Solution Platform Family brings a TV-quality Visual Experience to your mobile device. The ArcticLink III VX Solution Platform family integrates Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE), Display Power Optimizer (DPO) technologies with LVDS, MIPI, and RGB interfaces, including display bridging, interface pass through, and dual output architectures into a single chip solution for consumer mobile devices. This highly integrated, yet flexible platform makes it the ideal solution for display and connectivity subsystems of handheld portable devices.

Displays typically consume 30-60% of the total system power. There a numerous ways to reduce system power, such as ambient light correction and CABC (Content Adaptive Backlight control). However, each of those ways reduces display viewability, and as such worsens the user experience. QuickLogic’s approach to display enhancement and power savings through DPO HD+ and VEE HD+ is a radical advancement from primitive technologies. QuickLogic’s VEE HD+ uses content awareness as it examines of each the following for each pixel:
VEE HD+ then uses that information to adjust the contrast, dynamic range, and color values of the individual pixels to maximize the viewing experience, while DPO HD+ uses that to adjust the brightness to best save system power while maintaining the user experience. The ability to provide a unique tone curve for each pixel, as well as have tight control over the display brightness, gives greater flexibility than the global adjustment performed by CABC. This approach results is greater power savings and the entirely new capability of adapting to a bright environment. VEE and DPO have been documented to save as much as 41% of system power. Additionally, the ArcticLink III VX also integrates QuickLogic’s Intelligent Brightness Control (IBC) technology, which allows for even greater power savings. When display content is of lower contrast or dynamic range, such as streamed movies from YouTube, display brightness is further reduced without affecting the viewing experience. The IBC function adds up to an additional 10% in system power savings (content-dependant).
