Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM)

With the market proliferation of various digital media devices, the demand from the entertainment industry content providers for protecting copyrighted material has increased. To address this need, a consortium of companies, called the 4C Entity Corporation, created the Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) Specification. The CPRM specification defines a secure and renewable method for protecting digital content stored on a number of physical media types including SD memory cards, portable ATA hard drives and other devices authorized by the 4C Entity.

The CPRM specification utilizes a common set of cryptographic procedures in each of its implementations. However, the implementation of the CPRM technology is dependent on the type of physical media. The physical media devices must be CPRM compliant in order for the algorithm to function correctly.

QuickLogic’s highly secure ViaLink® technology provides an ideal platform to implement algorithms such as CPRM. Its metal-to-metal programmable interconnect makes it virtually impossible to crack the cryptographic keys. And, the ViaLink programmability allows customized CPRM implementations based on the storage media required.

CPRM Solution Features:

  • C2 cipher algorithm implemented in hardware
  • Working in conjunction with QuickLogic SD/SDIO or P-ATA host controllers
  • Key stored securely in hardware
  • Optimization for SD-Video performance
