Military Devices

Family Summary

As the electronic content of defense systems grows, programmable devices are a playing an increasingly important role as a key component in military systems. Programmable devices are replacing the more traditional ASIC designs due to their higher cost, product obsolescence and the extended time-to-market.

Mission critical applications demand high performance and reliability from programmable devices in extreme environment conditions. Moreover with a move towards communications and smart munitions, controlling power is becoming important for designers.

Product Features and Benefits

Highly reliable programmable device solutions

ViaLink reliability is built into the silicon at every step, beginning with design rules and device characterization. However, unlike other fabrication processes, the reliability work continues with the layout rules, test methodologies, place and route software, ViaLink programming sequences, programming algorithms, qualification plans, and quality assurance processes.

Instant-on, Non-volatile

QuickLogic’s ViaLink® technology eliminates the need for the configuration memory required by traditional SRAM FPGAs and easily recovers from brown out conditions.

Not susceptible to SEU effects

Configuration not stored in SRAM cells, therefore not susceptible to the same effects as SRAM FPGAs. Licensed ViaLink technology to AeroFlex for their RadHard products for use in space applications.

Bulletproof design security

QuickLogic devices are completely impractical to reverse engineer or clone. Programmed devices use only 2-5% of the ViaLinks out of the millions of interconnections on each device. To determine the function of the device, one would have to understand every programmed link. No external memory device is required, further eliminating the chance of copying.

Ultra-low power consumption

ViaLink enables flexibility at ASIC-like power consumption levels. Specific design techniques are employed to reduce quiescent and dynamic power consumption; QuickLogic provides devices up to 1 Million gates with standby currents less than 1mA.
