QuickLogic’s Multi-Axis Sensor Data Buffer Catalog CSSP offers OEMs of mobile devices a proven solution for offline management and buffering of sensor data, keeping application processors asleep longer to save battery life. In many applications such as health monitoring and fitness, efficient storage and management of multi-axis sensor data is very important to minimizing power consumption. However, current mobile device processors are not architected in a way to efficiently manage low bandwidth, real-time device such as sensors.
Based on the PolarPro 3 programmable logic product platform, the Multi-Axis Sensor Data Buffer Catalog CSSP solution supports the collection and storage of approximately 10 seconds of 9-axis sensor data. The Sensor Data Buffer Catalog CSSP includes multiple technologies, including QuickLogic’s Communications Manager and Sensor Manager PSBs (Proven System Blocks), along with a buffer that supports approximately 10 seconds of 9-axis sensor data. The device collects and stores the sensor data with timestamps and sends it the application processor at given intervals, which can be programmed by the OEM or system designer. As the Sensor Data Buffer collects the sensor data in an extremely power-efficient way, it allows the host application processor to “sleep” for longer intervals. While the application processor stays in a lower power mode longer, the device battery life is extended without sacrificing the user experience.
The Multi-Axis Sensor Data Buffer Catalog CSSP is compatible with all major types of mobile-centric sensors from all major manufacturers of sensors. While initially designed to supports 9-axis (magnetometer, gyroscope, and accelerometer) sensor data, the device can actually support additional (or fewer) sensors to accommodate individual OEM use cases.
