QuickLogic in Top Five Logic Suppliers List in EETimes “Ultimate Products”

  • QuickLogic’s µWatt Programmable Bridges enable low-power connectivity to Wi-Fi modules for mobile embedded applications

QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq: QUIK), the pioneer of Embedded Standard Products and µWatt FPGAs, was selected by EETimes readers as one of the Top 5 providers of logic products. The product selected was the QuickLogic Eclipse II Ultra Low Power FPGA coupled with a processor from the Renesas SuperH® family of embedded processors. The Eclipse II FPGA serves as a µWatt programmable bridge, allowing the Renesas processor to intelligently connect to miniPCI and Cardbus-based Wi-Fi modules or chipsets.

A typical reader’s comment on the QuickLogic/Renesas combination was “…very useful for mobile communication. I would like to use it in my work.” The complete list of product categories and products selected is contained in the February 28, 2005 issue of the EETimes Ultimate Products.

Wireless LAN technology, or Wi-Fi, has been proliferating for years into the personal computer and networking equipment market. However, Wi-Fi modules often do not have the same native interface as the embedded processors used in mobile embedded systems such as Smartphones, PDAs, handheld GPS systems and gaming applications. QuickLogic solves this problem by providing an intelligent bridging function between technologies with its ultra-low-power Eclipse II and QuickPCI products. Earlier this month, QuickLogic introduced the first of its µWatt programmable bridges optimized for Intel’s PXA2xx family of embedded processors. Additionally, QuickLogic and Renesas have jointly developed reference platforms that give Voice-over-Wireless LAN (VoWLAN) product designers a “head start” in developing high-quality and feature-rich phones for their customers.
