Mobile devices such as Smartphones, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), Smartbooks and Netbooks are fast becoming the platform of choice for viewing multimedia content. This is driven by the increased data speeds supported by network operators, more visually appealing display technology, and the proliferation of Apps Stores enabling a wider variety of content developers.
And yet, we are still often disappointed with the quality of the visual experience on our mobile devices — particularly when it comes to watching a movie, mobile TV or viewing pictures. The fundamental problem can be summarized in two words…
Even with the advancements being made in mobile display technology, they still fall short in terms of adequate contrast ratio for viewing high quality multimedia content. Mobile displays simply do not have the contrast ratio our eyes have come to expect when viewing multimedia content. Furthermore, most content is captured and processed to be viewed on high contrast mediums in low ambient light - such as on your HDTV in your living room. Viewing high contrast content on low contrast displays will appear dull and gray, and details will be lost.
Bright sunlight only makes the situation worse, washing out more details in darker scenes or content.
QuickLogic's proprietary VEE™ Proven System Block (PSB) enhances both image and video quality by optimizing the dynamic range, contrast, and color saturation pixel-by-pixel to provide a natural viewing experience under any display backlight or bright ambient light conditions. VEE technology will make any display more viewable, and enhance the consumer's mobile multimedia visual experience.
All members of the ArcticLink® II solution platform family embed the recently announced 2nd Generation VEE technology, combined with programmable fabric. QuickLogic and Apical Limited partnered to architect and develop the optimal blend of algorithms with QuickLogic's PSBs and patented ViaLink® programmable fabric for mobile and portable multimedia products.
The core of the VEE technology is based on the proven cores licensed from Apical Limited, which is substantiated by nearly a decade of scientific research. These algorithms implement a model of human perception; resulting in a displayed image that retains detail, color and vitality even under variable viewing conditions.
